Putting Green in the Sky
Pojman Residence
Fountain Hills, AZ
The backyard of this gorgeous southwestern home in Fountain Hills, Arizona was beautifully transformed within weeks! To breathe new life into this Sonoran backyard, we reworked all of the hardscape and softscape to enhance the home's extension into the outdoors.
The renovation included the addition of an outdoor kitchen with BBQ and al-fresco dining area, a 17' raised "evening terrace" for lounging and relaxation, and a large putting green complete with premium artificial turf, 8 holes, and a small chipping pad. The new putting green adds, not only a recreational component to this gorgeous backyard, but becomes a languid eye-catcher painted by uninterrupted views of the Sonoran Desert beyond. We incorporated a tranquil boulder water feature behind their existing "spool" to add a peaceful ambiance to their backyard experience and refinished their existing patio with beautiful travertine pavers to match the outdoor rooms created throughout the space. The existing fire pit was given a stone-veneered facelift and reworked with a bull-nose travertine cap and azure fire glass, sure to make a statement under our Arizona skies!
The overall concept for this backyard was to maximize the homeowner's views of the Superstition landscape and beyond. We did this by paying close attention to the orientation and elevation of the outdoor spaces created. Another successful component of this project was a large-scale transplanting effort that involved the salvage and re-planting of existing plants. Originally from Chicago, our clients were mesmerized by the beauty of the desert plants, cacti, and succulents that were in their original backyard. We made recommendations to transplant most of the species in the back due to their large size and quality. All of the plants survived and this saved our clients significant time and money.

"Brian was so professional. We really enjoyed working with him. He listened to what we wanted and delivered a plan with plant and material boards that gave us everything we asked for. We had some concerns since we were new to the Arizona desert. Brian answered all our questions. We were looking for a unique backyard and he delivered with a very useable, low maintenance, and oh so beautiful design." ~Pojmans
