Hummingbird Haven
Danzer Residence
Tempe, AZ
For the Danzer residence, we conceptualized the client's dream space and then recommended the construction materials, hardscape elements, and plants necessary for their dream to become a reality! This included veneering the existing concrete path with Belgard Cambridge Cobble pavers to achieve a fresh, clean look and to increase curb appeal. We also designed a rip-rap spiral to provide visual interest and function as a drainage swale during rain storms. This unique path is made from loose river rock, which wraps the garden and terminates into at the tree well.
The client is wildlife aficionado, so we developed a plant pallet that will attract native birds, bees and butterflies. Sonoran Shadows selected an array of blooming native plants, highlighting some of Arizona's most beautiful options. These include: Angelita Daisy, Blue-Elf Aloe, Coral Aloe, Coral Fountain, Mexican Honeysuckle, Moss Verbena, and Parry's Penstemon. A Mexican Bird of Paradise was selected as an anchor at the garden's center and provides filtered shade and vibrant color throughout Spring and Summer months.
In addition to increasing a home's value, using native plants in your landscape has many benefits. Indigenous species tend to suck up less water and require lower maintenance. Native plants will also draw-in wildlife, like the honeysuckle-loving hummingbird photographed above.
